Installation & Activation

This step-by-step guide explains how to properly install and activate KiviCare Pro on your WordPress website.

Before You Begin

Prerequisites Checklist

Before installing KiviCare Pro, confirm the following:

  • ✅ System Requirements are met
  • ✅ WordPress version 6.0 or higher is installed
  • ✅ KiviCare Lite version 4.0.0 or higher is installed and activated
  • ✅ SSL certificate is installed (recommended)
  • ✅ A full site backup has been taken (recommended)
  • ✅ KiviCare Pro plugin ZIP file is downloaded
Important:
KiviCare Pro is an extension and will not work without KiviCare Lite.

Installation Methods

You can install KiviCare Pro using any of the following methods.

Method 1: Install via WordPress Admin (Recommended)

Step 1: Prepare the Plugin File

1. Download kivicare-pro.zip after purchase
2. Do not extract the ZIP file
3. Keep the file in ZIP format

Step 2: Upload the Plugin

1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard
2. Go to Plugins → Add New
3. Click Upload Plugin
4. Click Choose File and select kivicare-pro.zip
5. Click Install Now
6. Wait for the installation to complete

Step 3: Activate the Plugin

1. Click Activate Plugin after installation
2. A success message will appear
3. KiviCare Pro features are now enabled

Method 2: Install via FTP or SFTP

Step 1: Extract the Plugin

1. Extract kivicare-pro.zip on your computer
2. A folder named kivicare-pro will be created

Step 2: Upload via FTP

1. Connect to your server using an FTP client (FileZilla, Cyberduck, etc.)
2. Navigate to /wp-content/plugins/
3. Upload the entire kivicare-pro folder
4. Wait for the upload to complete

Step 3: Activate from WordPress

1. Log in to WordPress admin
2. Go to Plugins
3. Locate KiviCare Pro
4. Click Activate

Method 3: Install via SSH / Command Line (Advanced Users)

wget https://your-download-link.com/kivicare-pro.zip
unzip kivicare-pro.zip
rm kivicare-pro.zip
chown -R www-data:www-data kivicare-pro
chmod -R 755 kivicare-pro
wp plugin activate kivicare-pro

Verify Installation

Step 1: Confirm Plugin Status

Go to Plugins and ensure:
– ✅ KiviCare Lite – Active
– ✅ KiviCare Pro – Active

Step 2: Confirm Pro Features

Open the KiviCare dashboard and verify new menus:
– Settings → Pro Settings
– Settings → Custom Forms
– Settings → SMS / WhatsApp Templates
– Settings → Permission Settings
– Billing → Taxes
– Clinics (for multi-clinic support)

Step 3: Check Pro Access

– Visit Settings → Sidebar Settings
– All previously “PRO” locked features should now be accessible

Post-Installation Tasks

Immediate Checks (5 Minutes)

Database Setup

  • Database migrations run automatically on activation
  • Required tables are created automatically

Verify tables such as:

  • {prefix}_kc_custom_forms
  • {prefix}_kc_custom_form_data
  • {prefix}_kc_patient_reviews
  • {prefix}_kc_patient_encounters_template
  • {prefix}_kc_patient_encounters_template_mapping
  • {prefix}_kc_prescription_encounter_template

Clear Caches

  • Clear WordPress cache
  • Clear browser cache
  • Purge CDN cache (if used)

Check for Errors
Add temporarily to wp-config.php:

Review /wp-content/debug.log and disable debug after verification.

Initial Configuration

Quick Setup (10 Minutes)

Upload Branding

  1. Go to Settings → Pro Settings
  2. Upload clinic logo and mini logo
  3. Save changes

Set Brand Colors

  1. Open Colors section
  2. Choose primary brand color
  3. Adjust optional colors
  4. Save settings

Updating KiviCare Pro

Manual Updates
  1. Take a full backup
  2. Go to Plugins
  3. Click Update Now for KiviCare Pro
  4. Verify features after update
Automatic Updates (Optional)
  • Enable auto-updates from the Plugins page
  • Recommended only if automatic backups are enabled

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Dependency Error

Cause: KiviCare Lite is not active
Fix: Install and activate KiviCare Lite first

Upload Size Error

Solutions:

  • Increase upload limits in .htaccess
  • Use FTP installation
  • Contact the hosting provider
White Screen After Activation

Fixes:

  • Increase PHP memory to 512MB
  • Confirm the PHP version is 8.0+
  • Temporarily disable other plugins
  • Check error logs
Database Migration Errors

Fixes:

  • Confirm database permissions (CREATE, ALTER)
  • Check available disk space
  • Contact support for manual SQL migration

Missing Pro Features

Checklist:

  • Pro plugin activated
  • Lite plugin activated
  • Admin or Clinic Admin role
  • Caches cleared

Re-activate Pro if needed.

Post-Installation Security

Recommended Steps
  • Remove leftover ZIP files
  • Set correct file permissions
  • Install a security plugin (Wordfence, Sucuri, iThemes)
  • Enable activity logging

Performance Optimization

Best Practices
  • Enable caching (WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, LiteSpeed Cache)
  • Optimize database regularly
  • Use a CDN for faster loading
